During the 3rd year of the Film Production Technology course at University, we were tasked with creating a fifteen minute short film in small groups. As part of the project, we would all be undertake a specific role that we would be individually accessed on, whilst overseeing the entire project from pre-production, through to principal photography and then post-production.
Throughout the pre-production stage, we came together as a group and collaborated on the script, with the help of the executive producers to ensure the narrative was captivating and engaging for the viewer. Simultaneously, we set up a crowdfunding page, which returned a budget of £1500 for the production, aiding to cover the cost of professional actors and the production of an original score. Once the script was locked, we began to undertake camera tests, blocking each scene to streamline the principal photography stage.
During principal photography, I worked on set as the Digital Imaging Technician and had the responsibility of safely copying the footage from the camera Cfast cards through the DIT cart to the relevant SSD drives, making backups whilst doing so. I was also the behind the scenes videographer during shooting days, ensuring to capture footage from each day to include in the behind the scenes documentary that would be given to the crowdfunding backers.
For the project, my primary role was Head of Post-Production, which required me to edit the film in its entirety and act as a colourist so give the film a stylised and cinematic grade. I also produced the main title and credits sequences for the production.
